Heads Up! NH Vehicle Inspections Still Required Until Further Notice

Updated Jan. 30, 2026

You may have heard that New Hampshire was ending annual car inspections on January 31, 2026. However, a federal court has blocked that change.

What You Need to Know, NH Drivers

  1. Inspections NOT Ending: By order of the U.S. District Court, the state must continue the inspection program until further notice.
  2. Stay Legal: Annual safety and emissions stickers are still required by law to keep your car on the road.
  3. The Reason: Federal law requires New Hampshire to maintain emissions testing unless the EPA formally approves a change.

What About Moving Forward?

Remember, for Now, Don't Risk a Ticket! Police can still pull you over and ticket you for an expired inspection sticker.

Uncertain Future: This is a "preliminary" ruling. The state government is currently reviewing the decision and may fight it in court or wait for the EPA’s final word.

What Might Happen Next: The goal was to reduce costs and red tape for Granite Staters, moving the responsibility for vehicle safety from a yearly checkup to the individual car owner. Many people feel strongly this is a good direction to go in, so this could all change again.

When we know more, we'll let you know. Until then, be sure to get those NH cars inspected! Our Hanover location can do that for you.

The official service center of many happy dogs!

Why Being a Co-op Matters

There are nearly 300,000 auto repair shops in the United States, and only a handful are co-ops. (We may be the only one. Still checking!)

Being a community-owned cooperative, our business model is very different from the usual auto service center. Our sole responsibility is to meet the needs of our members and customers, not to make a profit for one owner or a small group of investors. This means we're under absolutely zero pressure to upsell parts or services.

Why it makes a difference.

Nice People

Our mechanics are friendly! We love to talk with you about your repairs and make you a part of our team.

Happy Tree-Huggers

We run environmentally responsible operations, offering Freon and automotive waste recycling.

Serving Those Who Serve

We're proud to service the vehicles of our first responders, like the Norwich Police and Dartmouth Security.
